We recommend a course of 2-3 sessions for smaller areas, or 2-8 sessions for large areas, with 4-6 week intervals between each session.
You might experience redness, localised swelling, tenderness and sensitivity, and occasional bruising in the targeted area. Such results are temporary and generally disappear in two to three days.
You might feel some mild discomfort due to the nature of this being an injectable treatment. We use a numbing cream to help you with pain management.
As long as you’re generally keeping healthy and do not suffer from any skin diseases or infections, you can opt for the treatment. However, Aqualyx® isn’t recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also not advised for people with lipodystrophy or type 1 diabetes.
Saxenda® does not treat type 2 diabetes and should not be used with Victoza® or any other GLP-1 receptor agonist or insulin. It is not a weight loss medicine, and unadvisable to take if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, diabetic ketoacidosis, or tumours in your glands. The treatment is also not suitable for pregnant women.
On first starting the Saxenda® treatment, a single pen will last 17 days. The first full pack of five pens will last six weeks. You need to gradually increase your dose in 0.6 mg intervals until you reach what is called the maintenance dose at 3mg daily. Once you begin that stage, each pen will last six days.
Aftercare
advice
- Avoid applying any cosmetics onto the treated area for the first 12 hours post treatment. Keep away from direct heat sources, i.e., sunlight and UV radiation, spas and saunas, or extreme cold for 72 hours post treatment.
- The treated area will be tender to touch several weeks post treatment. It might appear red, swollen, and bruised. It may also feel tender, itchy, and tight. Since Aqualyx® works by causing an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells, it results in swelling that lasts 3-5 days. If the problem persists, please contact us.
- Don’t use any anti-inflammatory tablets for 48 hours post treatment as that will work against the treatment.
- Apply an ice pack or a cold compress to the targeted area to reduce initial swelling.
- Patients are recommended to massage the area for five minutes three times a day to aid fat dissolving.
- Avoid drinking alcohol to facilitate the liver in fat handling.
- Drink plenty of water for the next one week after receiving treatment.
- Please abstain from particularly demanding physical exercise for 7-10 days as the released fatty acids are converted into additional energy.
- Please don’t get any facial treatments and laser, cryolipolysis, or radiofrequency treatments for two weeks post treatment.
- Results are permanent. However, you must follow a strict and healthy diet; otherwise, your body will simply store the fat in an alternative fat depot, and you’ll not lose weight.
- All side effects must have been fully resolved before further treatment can be performed. Please schedule your complimentary review six weeks after your final treatment.
